  1. Hallelujah! Thank you, guys (dudes). I’ve been missing the GrogPod so much that I’ve been going through the back catalogue and re-listening to the Dirk, Blythie, and/or Eddie discussions. I’ve come to the conclusion that the most embroilment occurred in the James Bond discussion (“Shut up, you!”). From the fingering of gavels to larping nightmares to fish fingers, these recordings have been keeping a smile on my face through all of the nonsense of the past year. One of my daughters wants to study abroad, and I keep hoping that she picks a university close to Bolton, so I can visit her and go to the greatest city in Britain and buy some grogs a few well deserved pints.

  2. I make about 90% of my tea in a tea pot. I can witter on about my favourite blends too…

Thanks for the Dave Morris interview. It pointed me at the availability of THE EYE OF EVER SEEING WONDER on line and there’s a couple of issues I never saw! I’m dithering about trying to run Tekumel again. With FATE this time. I never learn.

I don’t know if I ever knew he’d got involved with KNIGHTMARE as well as me.

I use the novelty Zoom background to shield people who don’t know me from the horror of my living room. The vast piles of books I’ve got down from the shelves and never put back. The stacks of badly organised board games… I’m just grateful that people can’t see the floor.

I have not become more competent over the past year. The opposite if anything…

My Wednesday night players consider Google Hangouts as the ideal compromise: they’re another bunch of Grognards and they’re going to be sad when it goes away.

The only actual face to face con I managed to attend in the past year was an ARS MAGICA meetup in Cheltenham. It was hard work keeping my distance from actual human beings while gaming with them.

    1. Did Tim Child not tell you that ’twas I who mentioned your name to him in the first place, Michael? Remiss of him, I call that.

I wondered about attempting a Tekumel campaign set in the Time of No Kings, perhaps using Ars Magica. But so much work would be needed to restructure the magic system that it would have been beyond me 25 years ago, never mind now.

      1. Well, bless you! That gave me two of the happiest summers of my professional career… and one slightly happy season doing scripts for TIMEBUS (or whatever it was called).

I think it would be a helluva lot of work extracting the core system of ARS MAGICA out of the accretals it has gathered over the years. I’m not even sure that there is a core to the onion in any case: I’ve never grasped how the magic is supposed to work or how the various kinds relate to each other.

I too am feeling a bit old and if I keep talking about it here I won’t have enough energy left to go down to the shops…

  3. Another cracking episode, great to hear more tales of early White Dwarf, and how Dave met Leo Hartas. His work on Dragon Warriors books 1 and 3 is fantastic, especially his illustrative maps.
Will he be involved with Jewelspider?
As for ‘levveridge’, I hope people who say it also pull ‘levvers’ rather than ‘leavers’ (American English speakers aside). Oh dear I’ve gone all Radio 4.
    Cheers.
